Barack Obama's 30-minute campaign program airs tonight at 8 p.m. on NBC, Fox, CBS and cable networks.
The campaign is being tight-lipped about the show, but an adviser says the taped program will tell Americans' stories and will feature a live cut-in to Obama, who is scheduled to be at a rally in Florida at the time.
The New York Times got a peek at a one-minute trailer of the program:The trailer is heavy in strings, flags, presidential imagery and some Americana filmed by Davis Guggenheim, whose father was the campaign documentarian of Robert F. Kennedy. As the screen flashes scenes of suburban lawns, a freight train and Mr. Obama seated at a kitchen table with a group of white, apparently working-class voters, Mr. Obama says: “We’ve seen over the last eight years how decisions by a president can have a profound effect on the course of history and on American lives; much that’s wrong with our country goes back even farther than that.”
The Washington Post reports:
Obama senior adviser David Axelrod did not want to discuss specifics about the broadcast, but said that there is "so much clutter on the air" that doing something novel "gives us a better chance to be heard."
"He'll be able to give greater details about where he wants to lead," Axelrod said.
The "infomercial" is a throwback to an advertising strategy common in the 1950s and 1960s. Ross Perot aired several during the 1992 election.
The McCain campaign has booked their candidate with CNN's Larry King program, to air a half-hour after the Obama program.
Will you be watching either, or both?

it is so crazy to see these so called Joe the Plumbers @ the mcain /palin rallies talking about higher taxes and socialism when I bet 95% of them don't make over
250k a year and will get a tax cut under obamas plan - so what the hell are they booing for because they will get a tax break ! i could see if bill gates, oprah were in the audience booing obama - what they hell is wrong w/this country
Niether...There is a hour special on the impact of the Macarena which I will be watching. Followed by a special of Kenny G's favorite songs. Nice!
I am voting Obama BECAUSE of the tax break I will be getting!! In this economy I will take extra money anyway I can get it...selfish maybe...survival for sure.
I look forward to a couple weeks from now when people can go back to being complete idiots about "regular" things instead of being complete idiots about politics. I'm so sick of this election because of all the coverage and dumb opinions that everyone has. MAKE IT STOP!
I will be watching both. While Obama is going to be talking about what he wants to do, McCain is going to spend the entire half hour talking about Bill Ayers and Reverend Wright and how Obama is going to steal the Country's money.....Its the same thing everywhere he goes. People don't realize that he doesn't have new ideas! He literally campaigns off of everything small thing that Obama does or says. The same people advocating for McCain, are the same ones who were advocating for Bush 4 years ago. Enough is enough.
People decry Obama's plan because they see beyond "how it affects me" and recognize the negative impact for the whole of society. The US government steals too much of our private property (earned income) already through threat of imprisonment. The problem is not that too little tax is collected. The problem is that the US government has no ability to control its spending.
I love how it is going to be on the major networks and BET.
We are already overloaded with information...Probably most of it false.
In response to the first post, the reason you see people booing Obama's tax plan is because they have morals about them. They do not believe that people that work hard to get where they are should be forced to give hand outs to the ones that have not paid the dues or worked as a hard for it. I and many others believe that giving hand outs will completely ruin what has made this country so great "ambition". Why work hard if you know that if you don't you will still be ok because the government oops... I mean all the people that work hard for a living will be forced to bail them out.
Mark my words, the only good thing that will come from Obama's election is that the Liberal view point after his presidency will be completely worthless.
It doesn't matter thatthe audience is making 250k, but what about their employeer who is now going to be taxed greater? Let's say you have a plumber that employees 10 people who make $40,000. If that owner has to pay more taxes then the way to cut his costs is by getting rid of one employee. Now put that on the national scale and hundreds of thousands of jobs are cut.
I will be watching. I too am amazed at the people who STILL back McCain, when I KNOW they don't made high incomes. Where would some of the older people be if we had no Social Security? If it were privitized? The rebublican party stands for absolutely nothing that I can support. And then you got Palin, a 'whack job' according to people who have to DEAL WITH HER, John McCain sold his soul and look where it got him.
And Joe The Plumber, if you haven't figured it out yet was
a republican plant.
Get a clue folks. Obama's coming!
FYI: the tax cut is now for people under 150K according to Biden.
The Red Scare tactics from McCain are just getting boring. Any informed person can tell you that there is nothing more "socialist" about Obama than there is about McCain. Taxes, bailouts, stimulus plans, and the like are shared on both sides. Obama's not proposing anything that the GOP hasn't also bought into, it's just a matter of where the tax cuts are focused.
How can Obama cut tax rates when 40% of Americans don't even pay taxes now? This is the smoke screen Obama is throwing at all of you gullable tax payers. Obama can't grow our economy by increasing taxes for the very people who create jobs. This will just lead to job cuts and NOT help our economy. What we're going to have is bunch of lazy, good-for-nothing, Americans trying to get by on Obamas socialistic policies.
We are all in grave danger if this man is elected!
I am certainly going to watch Obama's piece.
In all likelihood I will not watch McCain on King.
Who wants to see such a downer after an inspiring American message.
I am tired of the hate politics John is desperately employing.
I was a big supporter of him in 2000 before he was robbed by the GOP. Instead of fighting them, he gave into them and broke his moral and value system
obama say`s First it was Tax over $250 G`s....Then $200 G`s...now it has dropped to Tax the people who make $150,000....obama the snake oil salesmen will be bad for our Wallets...search and ye shall see...wake up people....you know who you are.
The first post is exactly right and says what I have been wondering the whole time. Why are the people making under 250K per year getting all riled up about the Obama tax plan? It will only effect the top 5% or less of the population that make over 250K per year. Those people are the wealthy who have not usually had to pay any taxes at all. They have tax shelters, trusts, etc. and can hire great accountants to make sure they get out of having to pay taxes. Obama's plan just wants to make sure that they do pay the taxes that they are supposed to pay. If you make under 250K per year, then you will actually receive tax breaks under the Obama plan. I for one, would certainly like to not have all of the tax burden for this country placed squarely on the backs of the middle class and the poor while the rich do not pay taxes and just continue to get wealthier because of the fact that they are not having to pay taxes. I am sick and tired of the wealthiest people getting all of the breaks in this country.
But 12:23 - this has NOTHING to do with race. He just wants to reach the educated, older, affluent audience that watches BET. And support the videos of JayZ, Usher and P. Diddy - who are his loyal supporters. He will also be airing on Univision. Hola Americanos! And I like how he will be sitting at a table with old, white people. Oh, Puh-leeze.
They do not believe that people that work hard to get where they are should be forced to give hand outs to the ones that have not paid the dues or worked as a hard for it.
So you believe that the upper class works harder than the middle class? You think that a middle school teacher is lazier than a stock tycoon?
Here's the dirty secret behind McCain's plan:
Most small businesses in this country rely on middle-class consumers.
Middle-class consumers have less money to spend right now than at any time in the past 30 years, in real terms.
If the middle class doesn't get help, most small businesses will be in peril.
So where do the McCain tax cuts go? To LARGE business executives and investors.
Executives and investors do not return money to the middle class, they spend money on luxury items and invest money in large corporations.
In other words, McCain's plan will funnel money to people who will in turn funnel it back to their peers in the upper class.
There is some truth to the notion that this will create jobs -- it will create low-paying, non-benefit jobs for companies like Wal-Mart and McDonald's.
The way you grow middle-class businesses is to return money TO the middle class.
McCain supporters vote against their own economic best interests over 98% of the time. It's a cultural phenomenon unequalled anywhere in the world, except for third-world dictatorships where elections are a charade of fear and intimidation.
only the lazy (no job..dont want to work) and uneducated will vote for obama....and all the Acorn Destitute`s...people who will not search and find out the truth...
I work for a plumbing company and our owner has said that when Obama win we will still have a job. He don't foresee any layoff. He thinks that Obama's tax plan will help alot of people that deserve it.
Obama's website state it will be people who make over $250,000. Just check it yourself.

**Cant take the pressure O` weak one??...run and hide and bury your head in the sand and hope for the best....LOL!!
McCain/Palin
The latest FL poll says that 93% of the black vote is going to Obama. But it has nothing to do with race.

I voted for Obama and I am very educated and I work 50 hours a week so your are wrong. I don't feel like because someone makes more than 250,000 they should pay less taxes than I do. It's called taxable income!
I hope all GOP supporters who receive a tax break when Obama is elected President give it back to the government or donate it to charity.
Joe the real plummer, you are exactly correct. BRAVO, I could not have said it any better myself. Republicans will beleive and repeat anything the RNC-BS machine plants in their heads because they are followers and not leaders and thinkers. They believe whatever their party wants them to believe even if it is to their own detriment. It is as if they are in some sort of cult and have been brainwashed to believe whatever BS the republican party spouts out.
Well after reading most of the comments here, it seems as if no one really understands what socialism is, and they especially don't understand what capitolism is. For those that don't know it, you are living in a socialistic society. Social Security, Federal Student Aid, Medicare, Federal Highway Grants, FEMA, all of these programs and departments are a part of a government that offers these services to the public...ie "spreading the wealth around". If you want a truely capitalistic society, where the market governs itself, you have to allow for monopolies and ask Bill Gates, the government doesn't want that. They want to "spread the wealth around". I guess McCain only wants certain people to have wealth, and others to be poor. After all everyone can't be wealthy, the poor are an integral part of the system that we've come to believe is capitalism. Some have made the argument, that they don't want to help others that haven't been successful in life as they have been. I have one question for those people. John McCain is a product of nepotism, not hard work. He married into money, and yet says he wants to create opportunity. How does he plan to do that, his pasts suggests that he can only take advantange of opportunity given and not create his own. May I suggest everyone that thinks McCain is going to be good for you, research the things that he is saying, Bush said those exact same things. And unless you are an investor on Wall Street or in Bush's immediate circle of friends, I'd honestly like to see where you are better off now than you were before Bush came into office?

"The latest FL poll says that 93% of the black vote is going to Obama. But it has nothing to do with race."
I'm going to assume that you are white, I'm an educated black man and am voting for Obama. It has nothing to do with him being black. I appreciate that fact that I'm able to vote for a black man, but I'm voting for him because I believe in his message. It is funny to me that no one ever questioned the black vote when blacks were voting for white men, now all of a sudden it is a problem or even a question as to why a black person is casting his vote the way he or she is. Bill Clinton got the majority of the black vote when he ran, did you ask the same question then. The fact is you are afraid of a black person running this country, so you revert to irrelvant questions as to belittle the reasoning behind someones vote. They are some people voting for Obama, just because he's black, but I guarantee that their are whites voting for McCain just because Obama is black.
After all, we've been arrested because we are black, passed over for jobs because we are black, beaten because we are black, hung because we are black, hated because we are black, afforded less education because we are black, and not given the right to vote for the simply fact that we are black. So if someone wants to vote for a black man simply because he is black...believe me, they have earned that right to do so!!!!
Jason T.......WELL SAID, Thank you.
"They are some people voting for Obama, just because he's black, but I guarantee that their are whites voting for McCain just because Obama is black."
Arguably the best line I have read in any blog during the past 6 months. Well said Jason T...well said.
I agree...thank you jason T for articulating the truth so well.
I am a white middle aged man and am proud to have voted for Barack Obama. I believe he will work very hard, intelligently and thoughtfully to find ways to heal the bitter polarization in this nation.
If we don't heal these rifts our society will break apart.
To anon 12:34: you say people are booing Obama's tax plan because they have morals and don't want to receive handouts. Yet, in Gov. Palin's state of Alaska that is EXACTLY what she gives her citizens. She taxes the oil companies working in Alaska so she can give "handouts" to her citizens. She has even been quoted this year as saying that is how she "shares the wealth".
