(6:15 p.m.) Alaska state legislators are in a closed door meeting reviewing an ethics investigation report on whether Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her staff inappropriately pressured state officials to fire her sister-in-law's ex-husband, a state trooper.
Anchorage Daily News reporter Kyle Hopkins is outside the meeting room filing reports on his iPhone. Apparently, the legislators are combing the report slowly. Hopkins, at 6:15 p.m. Eastern time, was told that news from the meeting was an hour away.
The McCain campaign preemptively released its own report today, clearing Palin. The New York Times reported today that Palin, her husband, and staffers pressured several state officials about the trooper, Mike Wooten.

Tasergate. Troopergate was a Clinton (ahem) affair.
Well, I think it's time to lighten up on Sarah Palin.
I mean, she's having her Fifteen Minutes of Fame right now, but in a few more weeks, she'll be relegated to being just another governor again...a paragraph and maybe a few footnotes in the history books, and that'll be that.
She abused her power. She couldn't seperate her personal life from her political responsibilites and now it has been confirmed.
Just more good news for that race-baiting, hate-mongering campaign of McCain-Palin.
Guilty!!! She is the second coming of Cheney.
I can't wait to see how the GOP spin this.
Well, well, well, ol' Sarah has abused her power. Can't say I'm surprised. Nice knowin' ya Sarah!
I'm guessing McCain will ship her back to Alaska and try to bribe someone like Lieberman to join his sorry ticket.
Excellent stuff. I'm really enjoying the implosion of the McCain campaign!
The results are in - her limited executive experience does, according to the legislative panel, includes abuse of power. She has also been inciting hatred - some Christian too...
Sarah was found guilty by Legislature. This doesn't mean (if democrates win) that she'll resume her role as Governor without being brought up on charges.
If McCain wins presidency, Sarah Palin will surely be impeached and McCain can re-fill the VP position with someone he really wanted. (way to go Republicans, you found a way to use her as a pretty face, them stuff her away once elected.)
Everything that I have read and heard is that she did not break any laws!!!!! I thought you had to break a law to be punished by legislature? This is a hand slap at best. Wish on dems
So tell me what Governor Palin did wrong.
1) The report agrees she was within her power to fire Monegan for any or no reason.
2) The report agrees she had cause to fire him due to work-related concerns and his alcohol abuse.
3) The report agrees she didn't fire him, but reassigned him. He chose not to accept the reassignment.
4) The report agrees no one at any time told or even asked him to fire the trooper who Tasered his own stepson, issued death threats, and engaged in drunk driving in his own patrol car.
Where's the abuse of power, again? Seems to me it's on the side of the Dem state legislator who stupidly crowed to the press about providing Obama with an October surprise.
How many kids does a trooper have to Taser before he gets fired? How many times does he have to drive drunk in his own patrol car? How many death threats does he have to issue?
Let's see, even the "kangaroo court" investigation report stated that Gov. Palin was perfectly within her right to dismiss the Head of the State Police, since he serves at the Governor's pleasure and can be removed for any reason (you'd have to read well within the 263 page report to see that), somehow, the Democrat chariman of the investigation states that Palin committed an ethics violation. DUH...WHAT??? That breakdown in logic and reality could only occur in a Democrat's mind, particluarly a Democrat doing all he can to make Republicans look bad and prop up Obama.
What a transparent bunch of B.S. this investigation was. Also, in their rush to get the investigation completed before the election to smear Palin, they even admitted that they didn't take into account all the depositions and statements they were given because they were facing a "deadline" (that was obviously self-imposed). They, then 'cherry-picked' what evidence fit their foregone conclusion. The whole thing was a total sham.
Charlie:
What won't the Democrats say next? When you start socializing medicine like Europe expect long waits for medical treatment. Even longer lines than welfare treatments. Delays and more delays. The costs are high now wait til you have socialized medicine. Bleeding heart democrats have had their year in congress and the new speaker of the house wants us to start speaking in Mexican and singing the Star Spangled Banner in Mexican. Well my Dad and my brothers fought in wars to keep this country free and AMERICAN. So as a registered Democrat I am ashamed of my parties fall from grace.
