The S.C. GOP is offering the bluntest answer yet to the question of how many houses John McCain owns: For five years, his "home" was in Vietnam, as a prisoner of war.
S.C. GOP official Rob Godfrey tells us this ad will air in Minneapolis-St. Paul beginning tomorrow through the Republican Convention.
Amid shots of empty POW cells, a narrator informs: "This is where John McCain was starved, beaten, tortured, and maimed for life. So the next time Barack Obama talks about one of John McCain's homes, remember this one."
This is the starkest visual defense yet on the "houses" issue, and it clearly follows the lead of the McCain campaign, which initially tried to deflect the houses criticism by citing McCain's time as a POW.
This morning, in an interview with Pittsburgh radio station KDKA, McCain was asked about criticism that he is out of touch with voters on kitchen table issues.
"I know what it's like not to have a kitchen table," McCain said. "I know what it's like not to have a table or a chair. For five and a half years, I sat in a ... in a cell with nothing but concrete floor and three boards to sleep on."

Thats hillarious!
"This is a story of a John McCain home you might not have heard about..."
What? John McCain was in a POW camp??? Why doesn't someone keep me informed!
Every sentence this guy utters is:
Noun - verb - POW
We get it. It was a great sacrifice he made for our country. We are grateful and proud. But PLEASE John, just give me one more sentence to quote...
"noun, verb, POW"
ummm...thanks
Don't forget "9/11" and "Drill here, drill now"
thats ok josh, we understand you libs are more impressed with rev wright, billy ayers, tony rezko and late term abortions. but that wont win you a white house. its the dumbasscrat party thats out of touch, not mr mccain.
the dems say forget 911 and dont drill for oil. what a bunch of dumbasses.
Well said Mr. Riiiding Diiirrrty
I am wildy impressed by late term abbortions. Wow, gotta love em.
Rev. Wright: more like Mr. Right ;)
Ayers, Rezco...ooo now that is scary! I guess Obama is a terrorist after all!
Tell me something Riiiding, what is it exactly that Obama did involving Rezco?
Go ahead, you can google it.
And whats with your fascination with the lower case "i"? I mean, I know its fun for you to write with your big fat kindergarten pencil, but do you enjoy typing it as well?
Paul. Do you believe that drilling offshore is going to bring down oil prices within 10 years? Ever?
If you've bought that argument, I'm sorry, but I wouldn't be throwing the "d" word around
you get all the points joshy. and if you dont know about your felonious friend mr rezko then you google him. i dont need to. as for your mr right comment, i think that says it all. you must be just as racist as he is.
what is your energy policy josh? oh let me guess. those cute little windmills. oh yeah, and raise my taxes and inflate my tires. brilliant!
What des the "drill here, drill now" crowd think of the 1,000,000+ barrels of oil that are exported daily from the U.S.?
Why didn't the republicans institute drilling in currently restricted areas when they controlled congress for 6 yrs under Bush??
cue for crickets chirping....
Joshua
I propose that you take some ECON101 classes where you could find out about the law of supply and demand. If you don't believe it you can go to the gas station. Since the demand for gasoline is currently lower in the US than it was a year ago, prices have dropped from their peak. It also works if you increase supply.
Oil is a commodity and there is nothing about "buying into" argument about offshore drilling. It's economics stupid (paraphrasing Bubba Clinton)
because oil was 40 and 50.00 barrel dumbass.
I love how none of the comments are on point to the ad. He had a horrible experience in vietnam, now he has 100 houses.
Why don't they drill on all the un-exploited land they currently lease?
If there's no oil there, why is it still being leased?
Actually Paul, I was going to suggest we all slide our shoes across the carpet every morning and then drive to work on the static electricity produced. But wind and solar may be ok too.
Anonymous... I understand supply and demand. But do you not understand that global supply is manipulated by OPEC? Have you heard of OPEC? The current global output is 88 million barrels per day. At best estimates we could add 4 million per day. Do you not think that OPEC will simply cut back production to compensate and therefore continue to fix the price?
"Its economics AND geopolitcs dumbass" - Joshua
His wife has nine properties, two of them are occupied by his family members. He is taking care of his elderly aunt, unlike Obama who allows his half-brother to live in the shack with the income of $12/year. Just imagine how much a $20 bill from American brother would do to his wealth
Nobody should listen to anything the SC GOP has to say. Those folks are just slightly above cavemen on th evolutionary ladder.
i can smell the liberal hate all over the place in here.
Don't blame the Republicans for their non-action. How could they have possibly have known petroleum demand is increasing gloablly, and that it's (for all practical purposes) a non-renewable resource. They also didn't know that many foreign oil revenues might be linked to terrorist funding.
To be a political conservative is to be morally myopic and intellectually constipated. Republicans just don't "get it," particularly when it comes to the plight of the common person.
liberal hate? who first used the term "dumbass"? nice try, though.
Joshua
OPEC controls approx. 70 percent of oil. T Boone says that we have 3%, but it's based on the data from early 1980's. We are not only not allowed to drill, we can't do research on it either. They can try to cut production, but that still wouldn't affect the price. We hear about 10 years, but if Bubba didn't veto it 12 years ago, we wouldn't be here today.
Isn't that ironic that we make our president beg Saudis to increase production (according to Dem. senator it would bring price by $20, but our own production would lower it only by 2 cents), while at the same time refuse to look for it on our own
Honest question for those of you in here who obviously listen to Rush Limbaugh (and don't try to deny it, there are some direct quotes here).
Does it not bother you at all to refer to yourselves or be referred to as "Ditto-heads"?
I mean, your bragging about not thinking for yourselves!
John McCain has ONE condo in Virginia (the area is a suburb of DC just like Mint Hill is a suburb of Charlotte), he owns it with his wife. The other "homes' that Obama talks about are owned by his wife's family and he uses them. Just like you visit Grannies for vacation. His wife was gracious enough to invite his elderly and income challenged aunt live in one as a guest with no costs to her.
How different that Nobama - his half bro lives in a hut in Africa with a dirt floor, no running water (i.e. no bathroom). He exists on less than $12 a year, a year!
Nobama did not serve our country - he is too pro-China to do that. His remarks that look at the Chinese - they really have a great place where the Olympics were held. If I were a big corporation, that is where I would start my business. Yes, in a country that tramples freedoms of its people, pays their workers pennies a day, had their citizens muck the lake where the rowing took place which was filled with toxic waste from their factories without proper protection.
McCain served our country, he almost died for it, he lived through hell as a POW in a pretty fancy place. Yes, they called it the Hanoi Hilton, but it wasn't where Paris would stay.
And, better saying I fought for my country, I understand the angst of our military and the need to protect our freedom than we need change but without a plan. I think the change Nobama talks about is the change that will be left in your pocket after he gets through raping your paycheck for his change programs.
Now it's Clinton's fault? I thought the previous poster (3:06 pm) claimed there was no need for action cause the price "was 40 and 50.00 barrel dumbass."
Get your stories straight.
Thank you Mr. McCain for your years of service. No one will question your patriotism or dedication to this country. Anyone who doesn't thank you for this should move to Canada.
That said, I don't want you anywhere near the button, or the White House. I was in the black 9 years ago and now in the red all because of one administration. You are not my answer out of this hole.
Scare tactics. Politics of fear. Bullying people around. Moronic one-liners like "late term abortions" made to demonize people. No more. We've had it. It's time for intelligence to rule this land, not some war lord.
Anonymous,
You seem to be relying on this oil we would drill for being "ours". See, we live in a (say it with me) cap-i-tal-ist system. The oil produced off our shores would be owned not by us but by the corporations that drill for it. You honestly think they're going to sell it to us cheaper than to China?
Now if we operated in a socialist economy (and, no I'm not advocating) then drilling domestically would actually change the prices we pay at the pump. Go check out China, Saudi Arabia, or Argentina's prices per gallon. Oh, if only...
Question: why should anybody who isn't (a) white and (b) wealthy vote for John McCain and the Republicans?
No one is disparaging McCain's POW status. The Bush/Rove (Republicans)folks already did that in the SC 2000 primary. Remember?
You can't have it both ways.
McCain sucks.
http://divorcesupport.about.com/b/2008/08/24/mccains-adultery.htm
Like I just said on the last post: If My dad had abandoned us and raised a whole new family on another continent, I don't know that I'd be all that involved in my distant half-brother's life either.
I mean, I have cousins in Buffalo on welfare who used to deal drugs (and for all I know, still do)-- and I have no plan to go visit them, let alone give them money. Since they grew up on opposite sides of the world, this "brother" is really more like one of those cousins to Barack.
Joshua
You are right, we are in the capitalist economy and increased supply of ANY product lowers the price. The oil companies lease the land for drilling and pay tons of money for royalties (12-17%) plus taxes on their profits for it. Their profit margin is 8-9 percent and government's cut is almost 20%.
And BTW the price is set by the market not companies so your idea of getting it cheaper is ridiculous
Supply is manipulated by OPEC, and when you take that econ101 class, you'll learn about collusion.
If I have to hear about John McCain's Presidential value being linked to him being a POW...I'm going to throw up.
#1...He was a pilot that screwed up! He was shot down...not good.
#2...He was CAPTURED. They do train on evasion and survival skills. (I wonder how he graded)
#3...He survived. That's a human's #1 instinct...to survive. How does this make him qualified to be President.
#4...He never commanded ANYBODY. He was a pilot. He only commanded/led a plane. And he FAILED at that!
Wake up people! John McCain only cares about the wealthy. If you fit that description, then you have every right to vote for them come November.
Otherwise, you have to be an Idiot to vote Republican.
And if you're voting based on the Christianity platform, then please remember the following quote:
“Inasmuch as you have done it for the least of My brothers, you have done it unto Me.”
Anyone remember Katrina, Darfur, the millions of kids without healthcare, poverty, the jobless, the sorry state of our public schools, public housing, the War on Drugs, racial profiling, Police-Gone-Wild, HIV, the mortgage crisis??? The Republicans in office don't care about their fellow man, and it's obvious by their voting records. Doesn't sound very Christian...or Human to me.
So how come has OPEC allowed for the price to drop by 25%? Didn't you notice how quiet Chavez and Ahmadinejad are now? And how big-mouthed they were just two months ago?
just the threat of drilling, gas fell 42 cents in 6 weeks. But your right 2 cents in 10 years. Why don't we be like Maddam Speaker (Nancy) and invest in Pickens company and tout how great a renewable resource Natural Gas is.
For the person who is in the Red. 9 years ago, the Stock market was held afloat by the speculation the previous administration ignored, inflating wealth. With 9/11 hit, the Tech Bubble burst. Our economy has fluddered up and down since then. But since we are blaming the government, let me ask, how many cell phones do you have? SUVs? Big Screen TVs? Paid cash for them I'm sure. Most American's financial problems rest in our own dumb decisions. Investing in inflated stocks. Spending 20% more than a house is worth with 0% down, financing it with an ARM expecting it to increase in process. Filling it with TVs and leather couches and buying gas hogging SUVs. Running up loads of credit card dept. Spend your days at work surfing the internet, blaming your company for shifting jobs to India and then blame your country. Take responsibility for your own economy.
Will drilling off shore bring oil prices down in 10 years you ask, u don't have to wait that long. Just the removal of the ban by the President and the threat of more US oil has caused oil futures to drop. Or maybe it was Nancy "Pugnosey" and the democratically controlled congress who haven;t done a thing in 2 years but bash the presidnet that did it?
Simple question to all the Dems, if you are so intent on changing the country and returning it to greatness, why are you waiting until after the election? You have a lame duck president, that doesn't even have the support of many in his own party and you have control of both houses of congress......and WHAT HAVE YOU DONE IN THE LAST 18 MONTHS?????
Also, u Dems talk about all McCain talks about is POW. How many times do we hear about Obama's poor single mother, whose husband left her to raise poor Barack herself, while he was off fathering more kids all over Africa.
And remember McCain might not have know the exact number of houses he and his wife woned, but Barack thought we had 57 states???????
Marlo
It's hard to show survival skills if you get ejected in the middle of the city and land in the lake with a broken arm.
And get the facts straight that he commanded the biggest squadron in the Navy
You qoute the Bible. Good qoute because Obama voted THREE times to let children born of botched abortions alive die.
Schools have beed run by the Democrats for years and they want to keep it this way (against vouchers and any private schooling, while sending his own kids to the one that costs $19K/year per child), same with the welfare system they designed. The only thing they succeeded was to have 50% of kids being born without fathers because the govco would take care of them providing money and free housing to breed further.
And I remember that HIV perpetrated on Black people by racist government. You know, even Obama denounced that comment. So wake up and get on with the program.
Where are the stories about Osama Obama (Ted Kennedy's quote...not mine) living in a million dollar house and of course a convicted felon helping him by hit...Joshua (your POW remark) has me to think that John McCain has more guts in his little toe than you'll have in an entire lifetime. Maybe we should let the rats eat on you!
57 states. Is that what the teach you in Muslim primary school in Indonesia.
Something that isn't said much, but there are 57 states in the "Organization of the Islamic Conference" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organization_of_the_Islamic_Conference. He must have been confused.
Anonymous at 4:01 PM must be a complete idiot, because Barack is not Muslim. Never has been. Even if he were, what the hell difference would that make?
baby killing tax raising GOD hating gay marraige lovin no drilling country/military bashing class envy racecard playing lying ass republicans?
You know, I was reading the back and forth from both sides of this "debate" with much amusement, until I read Marlo's unbelievably naive and ridiculous comment. Marlo, if you think John McCain was nothing more than a bad pilot, then I sincerely hope that someday you find yourself in harm's way at the hands of a terrorist and President Obama decides that he wants to talk about it with the terrorists before trying to save your butt. Maybe the life of a US military pilot will be saved and your righteous butt will be torn to peaces (yes, I spelled it like that on purpose).
Uh, think again on the 57 states thing:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/57states.asp
Tell me you've never slipped up after a long day.
Never said he was a Muslim. But 1. He did complete primary school in Jakarta, Indonisia where the majority of the students are Muslim. 2.) He did state that there are 57 states. 3.) There are 57 in the "Organization of the Islamic Conference" which I am sure he was taught in primary school.
Don't you wish McCain would find something else to say about himself besdies, "I was a POW for 5years?"
It's like his hall pass or something.
I don't think being horribly tortured as a POW qualifies you for POTUS. Likely you carry scars that are not good for things like calm, rational decision-making-who wouldn't?
if only we could identify democrats in the womb. that just might make a baby killer out of me.
Have any of you McCain supporters who claim Obama is going to raise your taxes actually looked at his tax plan?
Guessing by your shallow understanding of geopolitical economics I doubt any of you are in the type of tax bracket that he is actually going to raise tax rates for.
Thats the problem with the Republicans: 99% of them are voting directly against their own economic self interest but are either too ignorant, or too obsessed with forcing their superstitions (i.e. religion) on others to realize it.
This campaign reminds me a little bit of 1996. In both, the GOP had a candidate of advanced years that had suffered war injuries. The GOP candidate is one who has "paid his dues" over the years and has run for president before. And the GOP candidate is one who completely failed to excite even the members of his own party.
And the result will same: a GOP defeat.
more class envy. typical libs.
I looked at his plan. I might actually fall into a 55% bracket when you add FICA and SS taxes he wants to increase
mccain didnt lose a 15 point lead in a month.
Thanks for the Snopes link. It verifies he said there are 57 states. My 7 year old knows how many states there are. I don't care how tired you are, I can't see how you can accidentally get the number of states wrong.
Amazingly the people defending him are the same who roasted Dan Quayl for spelling "potatoe" the british way instead of the american way "potato". At least he spelled it correctly somewhere.
I just found out that Cindy McCain is a drug addict. Just what I think America needs in the White House an old, grumpy, pissed off, half crazy man that the greatest attribute in his life is losing a multi million dollar plane 30+ years ago. Oh yea, go America that man and his crack head wife is the kind of leader that we need.
McCain sucks.
http://divorcesupport.about.com/b/2008/08/24/mccains-adultery.htm
Good ol' GOP "family values" at work.
"Religion (superstition)". This is exactly the problem with the democrats. They think Religion is simply a crutch for many Americans and it IS the problem. Where in reality, is IS the most important thing for many of us whose votes you would like. So when you go about pretending to be a Christian while supporting murdering babies and dictating theology to the Catholic Church all while accusing Christians of being intollerant. We tend to get offended and vote for the other party.
Very well said Marlo. These "conservative right wingers" just don't get it. They have their agenda and they can't see anything else. Maybe if some of these people bashing Obama and the Democrats start falling on hard times, they'll think differently. Or maybe not. I mean they did vote for Bush twice and look where that's gotten them.
God willing, the majority of this country will look past the color of Obama's skin and vote for change. As they said last night "McCain..... more of the same"
4:23, have any supporting information for your Slander. Nice to see you resort to Slander since the annointed one's wife is finally "Proud to be an American" after all these years.
Should Barack Obama run an attack ad telling the story of the FIVE different aircraft the Admirals boy crashed or would that be too much?
I guess most of third generation of public housing residents has been falling on hard times because they seem to be unable to get up no matter how much money the government spends. And on top of that every 15-20 years we have to rebuild the place from the scratch. You are right, I don't get it
"They think Religion is simply a crutch for many Americans and it IS the problem. Where in reality, is IS the most important thing for many of us whose votes you would like. "
Exactly...the most important thing to you is blind believe in ancient mythology which plays right into the hands of the Republican Fear campaign..."Don't worry that you're poor and we're giving your money to the rich because you get to go to candyland when you die..."
You simply cannot reason with ignorance
Um...Yea good try to paint McCain as a coward. He was shot down on his 23 mission. During which he broke both arms and a leg, parachuted into a Lake. Too bad he just couldn't evade the enemy on one leg. Once captured he was struck with the butt of a gun and bayonetted. But he is a wimp. He wasn't treated for his wounds, instead he was tortured for information (giving them nothing). When they discovered he was a celebrary (his father was admiral of the Navy, they treated him and offered to release him). Unlike Obama who got a celebrary loan for his million dollar house, he flatty turned them down, opting instead for severe torture.
While this does not qualify him for President, it does qualify him for respect of his Character.
Reasoning alone you elitist pig. You represent the democrats beliefs well when you state that religion is a myth. That is why you will lose.
Interesting, when Democrats pray before their convention it's portrayed as visionary and hope bringing moment. When Republicans talk about religion it's fear mongering and unnecessary mixing of a state and religion.
I submit that McCain is not qualified to be POTUS. He was a POW for 5 years, that means his brain and judgement has been tampered with through torture and subversion. We can't trust his judgement because we have no idea what being in a POW camp for 5 years would do to a mans intelligence, judgement, and capacity for compassion.
"Potrayed" is the key word. Sincere would have been too much of a stretch because at the same convention, members, including the Speaker of the House attempted to tell the Catholic Church they were wrong about Abortion. You want to talk about mixing religion and politics.
The Dems love mixing religion and politics as long as the religion is more of a social club thing to get them votes and really doesn't mean much to them. No offense, Christians don't like to be used for political gain. If you aren't truly a Christain with a biblical world view instead of a self centered world view, don't come pandoring.
5 planes is it now. Source please. He was on a plane on the deck of the USS Forrestal when a fire engulfed his plane. He escaped, rescued another pilot. A bomb blew up and fragments hit his chest. The only other plane I know of was the one he was shot down in while returning to complete a failed bombing run, knowing full well he was going to get shot down. You see back then, bombs didn't have lasers and computers and he didn't drop his bombs on the first run, because it would have missed. Instead of returning to the ship, he went back to complete the mission. But he lacks character.
fellow democrats/progressives/independents/moderate republicans you cannot reason with people that take chain slander emails as the God's truth i.e. Obama is the anti-christ, he's a muslim, he's an alien, he' really a woman, he's really so stupid that even though he graduated Harvard Law school, he thinks there are 57 states. You cannot reason with fanatics that are so blined by their hate and fear. Don't waste your time.
The McCain PR team has been working overtime lately and doing a great job. From what I have heard, they are starting a full court press to expose the Obama campaign for what it is: weak and without message. These guys at the Obama campaign can only complain about the facts that the McCain PR team is putting together at instant pace. Typical liberal, they don't argue the facts, just throw mud at the messenger. It is very much like the Libs here, attack Fox News for reporting what the rest of the "leg tingling" media ignores. Conservatives would love for MSNBC and CNN to stay on the air, as a source of humor. The Libs, however, support The Fairness Doctrine.
For all you religious freaks.....do you believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy too?
Not everyone has to believe what you believe. Religion IS a source used by the Republican Party to make you "believers" vote for them. I can't imagine if Jesus himself were here with us today he would even approve of John McCain. I don't think Jesus is a Republican.
"... truly a Christian with a biblical world view..".
Excuse me?
This coming from the same conservatives who will support the death penalty time and time again.
Conservatives claim Pro-choice libs are religiously and morally bankrupt, but have no problem supporting the death penalty?!
The same Christian conservatives who will call a man a "dumbass" simply because he disagrees with their ideological views.
Pull your heads out of your sanctimonious backsides.

The Republicans didn't open more land for oil because they were too busy giving away mineral resources for free (no royalties).
And I do think Obama served his country. His work on the streets of Chicago was excellent and he greatly expanded the program he directed.
I wish everyone turning 18 had to do a year or two of public service, even if it's running political campaigns as a reservist.
I am truly speechless by the vitriol being exchanged here. This obviously isn’t meant to be a forum for people to exchange ideas. It’s more like a group of spoiled brats who resort to name calling and insults to get a rise out of their opponent when they can’t get their way. And when that doesn’t get the response that you want, you then resort to insulting the candidates families, their religious belief, their war records and anything else that you think is fair game.
Whatever happened to civility and an intelligent exchange of ideas? It’s no wonder we’ve had a succession of ineffective leaders at every level of government when the very people who elect them can’t even have a cogent discussion without debasing each other.
It’s no wonder that we can’t get more qualified people to run for public office. Who in their right mind would subject themselves and their families to this type of exposure!
John McCain is a true American! When he was captured by the N. Vietnamese he chose imprisonment over early release. He led his fellow prisoners in religious services. His wife is a real estate developer who specializes in rental property, how many homes she owns is not his concern. Obama , on the other hand has supported, and continues to support, Communists. His most important job as a civilian wad supposed to be school reform, That program was a complete failure.
I completely concur with the user that felt this blog is almost entirely pointless. Nothing has been learned by either side and everyone's pissed off. Welcome to American politics. As for the Jesus wouldn't be a Republican comment, I completely agree. However, I hope you weren't implying that he would be a Democrat either, because that would be just as absurd. The truth of the matter is that anyone of religious conviction will have difficulty finding any party that supports the whole spectrum of his/her religious beliefs. In a two-party, winner-take-all system you inherently choose between the lesser of two evils or the better of two imperfect alternatives. I tend to lean to the conservative side of the aisle but that doesn't mean I fully support all of their policies. I just agree with more of theirs than I do of the Democratic side. I'm also tired of the term 'conservative' being used so loosely and negatively. I consider myself a traditional conservative which derrives it's origins from ideas and not particular and recent party leaders. Please note that conservative politics used to mean fiscal responsibility, individual accountability and a focus on prevention of foreign conflicts...I subcribe to this.
